Ginger Rogers

“Don’t forget Ginger Rogers did everything he did… backwards and in high heels.”

It took me a minute to decide who I wanted to be my first “Wednesday Woman Crush”. I ultimately decided to start with my first woman crush. I was poor growing up and my sources of entertainment were library books and PBS. PBS is where I found and feel in love with Ginger Rogers. She was glamorous, sassy, she glided across the stage. She inspired my love of dance and jazz music.

Ginger Rogers was born Virginia McMath in Independence MO, 1911. her parents divorced when she was a toddler when she was 11 her mother remarried and they moved to TX. At 14 she entered and won a dance competition the win resulted in a contract with a vaudeville company. Her dance act was called “Ginger Rogers and her Houston Redheads.” In 1933 movie executives paired her with Fred Astaire in total they made 10 films together (my favorites are Top Hat and Roberta). Ginger Rogers from movies in 1965. In 1992 she received the Lifetime Achievement honor from the Kennedy Center. Three years later she passed away at the age of 83.
